January Highlight: Exec. Director, Randy Newcomb, Recognized at Citizen of the Year

Mr. Randy Newcomb was born and raised in Marshall County and has dedicated his career to serving our community in so many different ways, in fact, this would be one of the longest posts we’ve ever had if we tried to name them all!

In all seriousness though, Randy is not only involved in just his line of work as serving as the Executive Director of the Kentucky Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau, but is called upon by many organizations and businesses to help explore and define what our community is and has to offer to others.

Randy received his Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from Murray State University in 1991 and has dedicated himself as a community minded ambassador and true leader of tourism for Marshall County and the State of Kentucky ever since.

In 1995, he began his career as Marketing Director at Marshall County Tourist Commission. In 2002, he became the Executive Director which is now known as the Kentucky Lake Conventions and Visitors Bureau. With his expertise and the support of many leaders in the county, he began a branding initiative for Marshall County and brought “Kentucky Lake, the South’s Great Lake” to a whole new level of recognition in our community, to the region, our Commonwealth and neighboring states.

He also served as the spokesperson to help repeal prohibition in Marshall County, serves as a a board member of the Kentucky Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau, Opportunity Marshall Inc. and Kentucky’s Tourism Advisory Board. He is the Chair Elect for the Kentucky Travel Industry Association and an unpaid Lobbyist for tourism at our Commonwealth’s capitol.

He has received numerous awards and recognitions to include but not limited to the 2011 Outstanding Citizen of the Year for the Marshall County Arts Commission and the 2013 Member of the Year Award from the Kentucky Travel Industry Association.

He has been asked and has served on numerous panels in other states to help educate those areas about branding and tourism as well as communities and counties in Kentucky.

He is a dedicated family man with two teenage sons and quite the avid golfer. On the rare occasion that he actually gets a day off, you can usually find him on the green!

Please help me extend our gratitude to this ambassador for our community and tourism industry, and this year’s Kentucky Lake Chamber of Commerce Person of the Year, Randy Newcomb!
